Me and my daughter, Margot, at home.
I currently live in Newtown, CT with my wife, Amanda, daughter, Margot, and two sons, Logan and Luca. I have lived in Newtown my entire life and commuted to Western Connecticut State University for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I am a graduate of the 6th year program at Sacred Heart University, where I obtained a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Social, Emotional, and Academic Learning through Social Justice.
I am active in my community and served for six years as a Legislative Councilperson for Newtown's 1st District. In this role, I served as the chair of the Finance and Administration Committee, overseeing the administrative portions of the municipal budget as well as the town's financial policies.
One of my passions is technology and computer science. I started working with computers at the age of 10 when my father, a computer programmer, sat me down at a computer and helped me write my first "hello world" program using Visual Basic 6. Since then, I have completed formal coursework in computer science during my undergraduate studies and have taught myself other aspects of computer programming, including web design with front and back-end applications, .NET development using C# and Visual Studio, and Android app development using Java and Android Studio. While in college, I worked for Circuit City Stores as a PC technician, where I learned how to diagnose and fix computer problems and install new hardware and software. After graduation, I took on projects working as a freelance programmer, creating websites using the content management system, Joomla!, as well as developing applications using C#. While working at Westside Middle School Academy in the STEM Program, I instructed students in the use of Arduino, C++, and VEX Robotics. This led to me taking and passing the Praxis II in computer science and obtaining a #110 special endorsement from the state in 2020 to teach Computer Science in schools.
I am also passionate about science and science education. In 2015, I was selected to attend the Honeywell Educators Space Academy, a week-long program held at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. At this camp, I met with teachers from across the globe and learned about how to incorporate STEM skills using lesson plans from NASA in my curriculum. I have spent my entire career working in STEM, first as an eighth grade science teacher at the STEM Academy in Danbury, then as the STEM Instructional Coach for New Fairfield Middle School. I have served on the Connecticut State Science Assessment Advisory Committee, where I worked with educators across the country to write and screen questions for the Next Generation Science Summative Assessment. I currently hold a 029 endorsement to teach Secondary Mathematics and a 030 endorsement to teach Secondary Biology.
My mother was an immigrant who moved to the United States at the age of 14 speaking only French. This led me to become conversationally fluent and literate in French. I am proud of my French-Canadian heritage and enjoy hockey, winter, and all things maple.
